New Jersey
- The applying board stated in the sources
- The New Jersey Board of Nursing licenses registered nurses and licensed practical nurses; the current application page says the former Examination and Endorsement applications are combined into the online Candidate application. The board's own rules are not quotable from the sources reviewed, for a reason about the transport and not about New Jersey: the board has retired the Chapter 37 document this page previously quoted, and its Statutes and Regulations page now routes readers to the Administrative Code at third-party publishers. N.J.A.C. 13:37 is published and a reader can open it from the board's page; this page no longer reproduces it. Applications; statutes and regulations.
- Compact status in these sources
- The board states: "New Jersey is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact" and identifies it as NLC. It says a qualifying new Candidate receives a multistate license and another applicant may receive a single-state New Jersey license. This row carries New Jersey's statement only. NLC page.
- Offices in these sources
- Board contact information gives "124 Halsey Street", "Newark, New Jersey 07102", the Consumer Service Center at "(973) 504-6200", and New Jersey toll-free number "(800) 242-5846". FAQ/contact page.

This page assembles New Jersey's route for an RN or LPN already licensed elsewhere: the current Candidate application, endorsement rules and older instructions, compact mobility, temporary courtesy licensing, verification, fingerprints, all stated fees and timelines, and the original sources. New Jersey vocabulary is Candidate, licensure by endorsement, multistate Compact license, single state NJ license, and temporary courtesy license. The authenticated application screens and current charged amount remain uncaptured. Confirm applicability with the board itself. All amounts are quoted from the sources, not a total calculated for you.
The pathways, as the board describes them
Candidate application for a nurse licensed elsewhere. The current page says the previously used Examination and Endorsement applications "have been combined into one" Candidate application. A nurse licensed in another state applies as an RN or LPN Candidate. Applications page.
Endorsement in the rules. Not quotable from the sources reviewed. New Jersey states the endorsement route for nurses in Subchapter 4 of N.J.A.C. 13:37, which the board published as a PDF of its own until sometime after Aug 26, 2026 and no longer does. Its Statutes and Regulations page now links the chapter at Justia, which the board's own sentence describes as unofficial and possibly not current, and routes readers to the LexisNexis edition of the Administrative Code through the Office of Administrative Law, whose public-access page states that the online edition is not the official Code. A reader can open the chapter from either link; this page does not reproduce it. Statutes and regulations.
Compact and single-state outcomes. The current pages state that a qualifying Candidate receives a multistate Compact license; one who does not meet compact requirements may receive a single-state license. A holder of an active, unencumbered multistate license issued by another compact member has a privilege to practice in New Jersey. NLC page.
The published process
Practice while the application is pending. The applications page links an Official Application for a Temporary Courtesy License. The form requires age 18, direct verification from every jurisdiction, and five years of nursing-experience history. The rule that sets temporary-courtesy eligibility, N.J.A.C. 13:37-4.3, is not quotable from the sources reviewed for the reason given in section 01. The captured sources state no general automatic practice authority merely because a Candidate application is pending. Temporary application; statutes and regulations.
Verification of the existing license. The older instructions distinguish Nursys-listed boards from direct board verification. The rule requiring verification from every U.S. jurisdiction where the applicant was ever licensed sits in N.J.A.C. 13:37 and is not quotable from the sources reviewed. Endorsement instructions; statutes and regulations.
Fingerprints and the background check. Compact eligibility requires state and federal fingerprint-based checks. The older endorsement instructions say metropolitan-area applicants receive digital instructions by mail; for the described card route they state "$58.69" payable to Morpho Trust. Because those instructions predate the current Candidate workflow, the amount is preserved but not assumed current. NLC page; endorsement instructions.
The three rows above answer the questions an experienced adviser raises first, from the board's own published documents, or record that a question is not answered in them.
Fees, as stated in the sources
All quoted; none totaled.
Older endorsement instructions. "$200.00" consisting of "$120.00 license fee", "$75.00 nonrefundable application fee", and "$5.00 mandatory nonrefundable Alternative to Discipline fee." The current public applications page does not state the Candidate amount, so the authenticated current charge remains pending. Endorsement instructions.
Older fingerprint-card route. "$58.69" payable to Morpho Trust. The current metropolitan-area amount is not published in the captured current pages. Endorsement instructions.
Temporary courtesy license. No amount appears on the current applications page or the temporary application excerpt, and the rules are not quotable from the sources reviewed. What any of this means for a particular application is for the board to determine.
Timelines, as stated in the sources
All quoted; none calculated.
NPDB step. The current applications page says the board query "may take several days to complete after all other requirements for licensure are fulfilled." Applications page.
Permanent endorsement and temporary courtesy license. No processing clock or permit duration appears on the applications page, compact page, older instructions, or temporary application excerpt, and the rules are not quotable from the sources reviewed. What this means for a particular application is for the board to determine.

Change log
Sep 28, 2026 · Sources re-checked; capture recipe in place. All six current sources were captured again under a new capture recipe. The Board's four HTML pages were saved from an ordinary browser session, because the site refuses automated requests; the two PDFs were fetched directly. The capture matched every statement on this page, and no wording changed. The Statutes and Regulations page now replaces the retired Chapter 37 PDF as a standing source, as the Sep 7 entry describes. Sources last checked moves from Aug 26 to Sep 28, 2026. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter, reviewed Sep 28, 2026.
Sep 7, 2026 · Chapter 37 retired by the board; four rows re-based. The Incapsula challenge that had kept New Jersey off a capture recipe was cleared this session by a warmed browser session, and all six standing sources were reached again. Five returned their content. The sixth, the Chapter 37 PDF, returns 404, and five alternate paths for it return 404: this is a retirement by the board, not a transport failure. The board's Statutes and Regulations page, last modified Apr 14, 2026, now links N.J.A.C. 13:37 at Justia — which the board's own sentence calls unofficial and possibly not current — and routes readers to the LexisNexis edition through the Office of Administrative Law, whose public-access page states that the online edition is not the official Code, and whose session-scoped addresses cannot be captured deterministically. No first-party publisher of the chapter remains. Under FA-D-20260904-01 and FA-D-20260904-02 the four rows resting on the chapter now carry "Not quotable from the sources reviewed" and link the board's route rather than the retired file; the quoted subchapter heading is removed. Nothing here is a finding about New Jersey's law, which is unchanged; it is a finding about what the board publishes. The Aug 26, 2026 capture of the chapter is retained in the packet history and is not cited as live evidence. Sources last checked is unchanged at Aug 26, 2026, because this session retained no new packet capture. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter, reviewed Sep 7, 2026.
Aug 26, 2026 · Page created. Captured six first-party sources. Findings recorded rather than smoothed: (1) current public instructions combine examination and endorsement into Candidate while the rules retain endorsement terminology; (2) qualifying Candidates receive multistate licenses and others may receive single-state licenses; (3) the board recognizes remote-state multistate practice; (4) every prior licensing jurisdiction must verify; (5) a temporary courtesy route exists but the captured sources state neither amount nor duration; (6) the older endorsement instructions state a $200 fee and $58.69 card-fingerprint amount, while the current public Candidate page states neither; (7) no permanent-processing clock appears, though the NPDB step may take several days after other requirements. Capture pending: Candidate screens, current charged fee, current fingerprint scheduling letter and amount, and Internet Archive captures. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter, reviewed Aug 27, 2026.
